  • September 24, 2009 West Monroe, Louisiana- Ducks Unlimited

Tung-Bar© takes part at the West Monroe Louisana D.U. Chapter Banquet. West Monroe, Louisiana is nothing short of a Duck hunters paradise with internationally recognized waterfowl habitat such as Catahoula Lake (RAMSAR site), or refuges like Russell Sage, Upper Ouachita, D'Arbonne, Handy Brake, Black Bayou, and Tensas River. At certain times of the year Louisiana can be host to over 1/2 of the entire Mississippi Flyway migration.

D.U. has 1000's of projects in Louisiana and has conserved over 300,000 acres of waterfowl habitat at a cost of $44 million.

Chapters like West Monroe are what makes D.U. so great. Despite a deluge of rain, a slow national economy, and a small chapter size the good folks at the West Monroe D.U. Chapter were able to surpass last years fund-raising efforts. Congratulations!

Tung-Bar© comes down to the Lone Star state with great pride to help the fund raising efforts of one the nation's largest D.U. Chapters known as Weatherford Ducks.

Texas is unique in that it winters 90% of duck populations and 75% of snow goose populations found in the Central Flyway.  Rice fields, prairie wetlands and associated coastal marshes provide important habitat for hundreds of thousands of white-fronted geese, several species of diving ducks, mottled ducks, and other species of puddle ducks.  DU has worked to conserve over 155,000 acres of waterfowl habitat throughout Texas since 1985.

Tung-Bar© comes back to it's roots by assisting the 22nd Annual Los Banos C.W.A. Chapter Dinner with it's fund raising efforts. An agricultural community Los Banos is rich in it's waterfowling heritage and offers duck hunters opportunities at China Island, San Luis, Kesterson, Freitas, West Bear Creek, Merced, Blue Goose, Salt Slough, Los Banos, Volta, Gadwall, Merced and Mendota Wildlife Areas.

Like the famous Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, Los Banos has the famous Santa Fe Grade & Henry Miller Roads which are home to dozens of private duck clubs, some clubs are100 years old.

Green Wing Teal are generally the No.1 bird taken in this part of the state along with Pintail, Mallards, Widgeon, Gadwall, Shovelers, Snows, Specs, and Honkers.

Perhaps there is no greater place to end up after season's opening day shoot, then at the Woolgrowers Restaurant. Hundreds of duck hunters gather to sit together at long tables to feast and share stories at this famous Basque restaurant located in the heart of Los Banos.

I grew up duck hunting in the Los Banos area sculling San Luis Reservoir and hunting on clubs along the Santa Fe Grade. So it is real pleasure to assist with this year's fund-raising efforts. We would like to thank Dinner Coordinator Tom Homen and all the great volunteers that made the 22nd Annual Los Banos C.W.A. Dinner such a great success.
