Tung-Bar© Trailer Stands will support a hanging scaled weight of 100 lbs at the trailer hitch. Using a hanging weight scale, lift your trailer hitch off the ground to meaure the downward force or weight in pounds. Or simply place a standard bathroom scale on top of a milk crate and lower the trailer hitch onto it.

Different Methods for Measuring Tongue Weight

Place the household scale and a small block of wood as high as the scale 3 feet apart (see diagram). Re-zero the scale to correct for the weight of the wooden beam and trailer tongue support. Make sure the trailer wheels are blocked securely and rest the trailer coupler on the beam one foot from the small block of wood and 2 feet from the scale.

Simply multiply the scale reading by 3 to give you your tongue weight.

For Heavy Duty Applications

For heavy duty applications of over 600 lbs. we highly recommend taking your unloaded trailer to a truck scale at a local waste facility. Unhitch your trailer leaving only the trailer tongue on the scale. Make sure that your wheels are NOT on the scale to attain an accurate unloaded trailer tongue weight reading.
